Movies and TV- Ok, so these may not strictly be forms of social interaction, but the do inspire it. How many times do you come to school, and talk to your friends about what happened on _____ tv show last night, or what movies you saw over the weekend? Now you see where we are going. Another point would be that people get attached to shows. A fine example would be feeling sad at the death of a character on a tv show (they killed Dawson's dad last night!!), or being happy about the marriage of a "couple" on a sitcom, anything like that. We feel connected to these actors, and although we'll never meet these people in real life (the characters portrayed in media, that is), we feel like they are somehow part of our lives. They interact with us. Music- Music brings people together. Whats more fun than going to a concert with a group of friends, or with your special love interest? Music creates atmosphere that can enhance or change the type of social interaction thats going on. Soft music in a romantic restaurant; loud pop music in Miami Subs; cruising around town with your friends and your favorite cd's. Phones- Telephones made it extremely easy to get in touch with people. Daily conversations with friends on the phone, annoying telemarketers trying to sell you crap you don't need, calls from the grandparents, all those are obviously types of interaction. |
